ABOUT SECTION KRT
Section KRT is dedicated to creating spaces that are both visually stunning and highly functional. We achieve this by collaborating closely with our clients to understand their unique wants and needs, and then meticulously developing design concepts and suggesting furniture, finishes, architectural details, and decorative accents. The team at Section KRT aims to bring our clients' visions to life, resulting in spaces that are both daring and impactful yet refined and elegant.
ABOUT KIARA
After a brief stint working for an acclaimed designer in LA, I grew uninspired and decided it was time to disrupt the Interior Design industry. My desire to bring something new and raw to the industry in addition to the lack of diversity in the field is what inspired this leap of faith to create Section KRT. Constantly drawing inspiration from things that make me question their creation and existence, I strive to create spaces that evoke thought or emotion. I am not your quintessential, clean-cut interior designer - I proudly break the rules and I embrace controversy. I truly strive to never be bored or boring.
My love for Interior Design stems from an early age. I grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee and traveled all over the country, competing in a variety of sports which granted me many opportunities to stay in high-end accommodations and introduced me to luxury interiors that differed from the interiors of the low-income apartments I lived in (the name Section KRT is derived from a play on section 8). My grandmother took note of my interest and we spent countless hours watching HGTV and developing creative hobbies together. This encouraged me to enroll in an Interior Design class as a high school elective as well as provide paint and finish suggestions for my parents when they purchased their first house.
I went on to study Interior Design at The University of Alabama as a member of Track & Field team. Shortly after graduation, I made a spontaneous decision to relocate to California with hopes of starting my career as a designer. It was in San Francisco where I worked for talented designers, including Ken Fulk and Kendall Wilkinson. Working at these world-renowned design firms taught me that I don’t have to fit in a box and allowed me to gain my wings as a designer.
My ultimate goal is to diversify the industry while encouraging people from all walks of life to embrace interior design as a form of self care and to invest in their personal spaces. Everyone deserves to feel represented and to live somewhere that truly feels like a home.
